Privacy Policy

BestExperimentIdeas is a community platform where people publish science and engineering projects, build them, record results and — where a creator chooses — sell access to a premium project. This page describes the information the platform handles to make that work.

Account information. Your email address, a password (stored hashed by our authentication provider) or a Google sign-in, and the date your account was created.

Profile information. Your display name, username/handle, avatar and any bio or links you add. Profiles and handles are public.

Project content. Projects you create — titles, descriptions, materials, tools, steps, safety notes, hypotheses, results, datasets, images you upload and YouTube links you embed. Published projects are public.

Community activity. Builds you start, results you record, reviews, comments, posts, likes, follows, saves, project updates, reports you file and notifications generated for you.

Purchases and subscriptions. Which projects you bought, the amount and currency, payment status, refund status and your Scientist subscription state.

Creator earnings and payouts. If you sell premium projects: your earnings ledger, payout records, payout status and the identifier of your connected payment account.

Support communications. Support tickets and the messages in them, including emails you send to our support address.

Email preferences. Which notification emails you have turned on or off, and delivery records for the emails we send you.

AI usage information. For each AI request: the feature, provider, model, your account id, whether it succeeded, token counts, estimated cost and duration. Prompt text and model answers are not stored in that record.

Analytics and security logs. First-party product events such as page views and key actions, referral/attribution parameters if you arrived through a referral link, and technical logs (including IP address and user agent) recorded by our hosting and backend providers for security and abuse prevention.

• Google authentication. If you sign in with Google we receive your email address, name and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
• Stripe (payments and payouts). We receive the outcome of a payment, the amount, currency, last-four-style payment metadata, refund events, and payout account status. Card numbers and bank details are entered directly with Stripe. BestExperimentIdeas does not store your card or bank details.
• Resend (email delivery). Delivery status for the transactional emails we send, and inbound emails you send to our support address.

• To create and secure your account and sign you in.
• To publish, display and moderate projects and community content.
• To run builds, record results and produce the aggregate comparisons shown on projects.
• To process purchases and subscriptions, unlock premium content and issue receipts.
• To calculate creator earnings and process payouts.
• To send transactional email you have not turned off, and to answer support requests.
• To measure how the product is used so we can improve it. These product analytics are first-party: events are stored in our own database and we do not embed third-party advertising or tracking scripts.
• To detect abuse, spam, fraud and unsafe content, and to enforce our policies.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data to train third-party advertising profiles.

Some features are AI-assisted. Nothing is sent to an AI model unless you use one of those features — there is no background AI processing of your account, projects or messages. When you do use one, the relevant part of the text you are working on and your instruction are transmitted to the AI service provider the platform is currently configured to use, so it can generate the response you asked for.

Which provider. OpenAI is the primary provider for all AI-assisted features, including AI image generation. Google (Gemini API) is configured as a backup only, used when an OpenAI request cannot be completed because of an availability problem such as rate limiting, a service error or a network failure. Some AI features were previously routed through Lovable's AI gateway; that path is not used by the AI features today. A single request goes to one provider at a time, and the configuration can change over time.

Their terms apply. AI providers process prompts and related content under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not own, control or guarantee their data-handling practices. Review the applicable provider's policies before submitting anything sensitive, and do not paste confidential, proprietary or restricted information into AI features.

What we record. For each AI call we store the feature used, which provider and model answered (including whether the backup provider was used), your account id, success or failure, token counts, estimated cost and duration. We do not store the prompt text or the model's answer in that record. Anything you save into your project afterwards is stored as ordinary project content. Full detail is in the AI Disclosure.

• Hosting and backend/database providers that run the platform.
• Stripe, for payments, subscriptions and creator payouts.
• Resend, for outbound and inbound email.
• Google, if you choose Google sign-in.
• Our AI providers — OpenAI (primary) and Google (Gemini API, backup only) — for the AI-assisted features described above.
• Lovable, whose connector infrastructure routes our payment and email API calls to Stripe and Resend.
• Law enforcement or other parties where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to investigate abuse, fraud or a safety risk.

Anything you publish — projects, profiles, posts, comments, reviews and public build results — is shared with everyone who visits the site.

• When you buy a project or a digital product we record the purchase: what you bought, the price, the fee split at that moment, the payment reference from Stripe and your account id. Card details go to Stripe and never reach us.
• Every file download is logged with your account id, the file, and the time. We keep these logs to enforce download limits and to protect creators from redistribution of their work.
• Some files we generate include your name, email, order reference and purchase date inside the document, so a leaked copy can be traced back to the buyer.
• If you sell on the shop, we store your listings, uploaded files, earnings, fee rates, payout records and the payout account status Stripe reports back to us. Identity and bank details are held by Stripe, not by us.
• We share the buyer's display name and the purchase amount with the creator you bought from so they can see their sales; we do not give creators your email address.

We have not set fixed retention periods for most data, and we are not going to invent one here. In practice: we keep account, project and community data for as long as your account exists. Financial records — purchases, earnings, payouts and refunds — are kept after deletion where we need them for accounting, tax and dispute handling. Support tickets and email delivery logs are kept so we can handle follow-up questions and abuse.

You can edit or delete individual projects and content at any time. To delete your account, or to request a copy or correction of your personal information, email us from the address on your account and we will action it. Deleting your account removes or anonymises your profile and community content, subject to the financial records noted above.

Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your personal information. We are not currently making a claim about any specific regulatory registration or certification — contact us and we will handle your request.

Accounts are intended for people aged 13 and over. Younger students are welcome to use projects with a parent, guardian or teacher who holds the account and supervises the build.

When this policy changes we update the version and last-updated date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be announced in-product or by email.
